Have a Lazy Day coming up? See what I did on my Lazy Sunday - also includes a fresh Pico De Gallo recipe!
Sundays are usually my lazy day to recharge and refresh before the upcoming work week. On the Sunday right before Halloween, a few things changed with my morning routine but it still was overall relatively relaxing. As an adult you realize that many lazy days aren’t always able to stay lazy days for long. Between house and family responsibilities, a lazy day can quickly fade away. Follow me on today’s journey.
1. Dog Duties – 7:30am
I wake up bright & early to take care of my dog Nacho. As soon as he senses me getting up he’ll jump of his bed, stretch, and start walking towards the bedroom door. We both go downstairs and he waits eagerly as I fill his water & food bowls. I let him outside in the backyard to relieve himself, after a few detours around the yard to smell everything of course. Back inside, I clean his feet and he starts to eat his breakfast.
2. Breakfast – 8:30am
My wife lovingly reminds me that today is the day before Halloween and my assistance is needed to finish decorating our front yard. As she’s preparing the newly purchased decorations, I begin preparing breakfast. I grab some eggs, onions, tomatoes, lime & cilantro. After making the pico de gallo, I crack a few eggs open to make an omelette. Add a scoop or two of the pico on top of your omelette for a refreshing crunch.
Quick & Easy Pico de Gallo Prep
i. Dice tomatoes, onions, and cilantro & add to bowl
ii. Add lime juice & salt to taste
iii. Let sit for ~10 minutes
iv. Enjoy!
3. Decorating – 10:30am
It’s my lazy relax day so even if I have other things to do, I like to put on football in the background if I can. I put on NFL Redzone in the living room and turn up the volume so I can hear from the front door area. We put up purple & orange lights, fake spider webs, and a ton of stickers & signs. My front yard and door is festive and inviting for trick or treaters tomorrow!
4. Turtle Duties – 12:30pm
Over time, water naturally evaporates out of the large turtle tank I have in the family room. So every few weeks I get the hose from the backyard and top off the tank. Higher water level makes it so the turtle has an easier time getting up and down her platform to dry. Also time for her daily feeding.
5. Afternoon Nap – 2:00pm
As I sit down and actually get a few moments to relax, I find myself growing tired. I realize I hadn’t had any coffee that morning and allow myself to drift into sleep. I awaken when my wife turns off football and changes it to some show on Netflix. I instinctively say “Hey, I was watching that” and promptly fall back asleep.
6. Trash Duty – 4:30pm
I recently purchased a new color laser printer and I always save the box for a few weeks after opening just in case. It makes returns and exchanges much easier if all the original packaging is still intact. This marked the 3rd week of successful usage so I broke down the box along with some random Amazon boxes and threw them into the recycling bin
7. More Dog Duties – 5:00pm
Even on the weekend, my dog knows exactly what time it is and knows that usually around 5pm after work we get to go outside on a walk. So around 5pm without fail, Nacho comes over to me and starts nudging me. My wife and I take the dog on a 2 mile walk and let him run around the park a bit.
8. Dinner – 7:00pm
Today we decided to order dinner instead of cooking. We pulled up our delivery app and ordered Mexican food from our favorite local spot. Super fries always seems to hit the spot just right.
9. Rest & Relaxation – 8:30pm
After all the chores and housework is done, I have the opportunity to jump on my computer and allow my mind to unwind. I spent a little bit of time surfing the web but soon opened up Steam and started playing video games. It’s one of my favorite ways to pass the time
10. Workweek Preparation – 11:00pm
After missing one or two early morning meetings, I have a habit of checking the next day’s calendar the night before. Our team is scattered across the US so different time zone meetings prior to my normal 8am start time are a regular occurrence.
